Westwood has been a place of 'rest and retreat' for almost 30 years - a haven for ALL seeking stillness in a busy world. Perhaps you are looking for solitude and peace, a place for digital detox, time and space to reflect, Westwood provides peaceful surroundings for you to do this. Retreats are not guided or structured so you can enjoy a flexible day and make your own arrangements. Westwood is ideal for individual retreats, giving solo visitors plenty of space and scope to recharge. Westwood is also a great place for couples, families and groups to escape from the modern, fast-paced world and enjoy connecting with each other. We have awe-inspiring landscapes on our doorstep, and we are nestled in the Pennine hills surrounded by rambling walks and stunning views. You can discover what neighbouring villages have to offer. We intentionally don't have any televisions in the flats, however, we do have WiFi and 4G if you do need to catch up with the world.
We are formed of two families, who live and volunteer on site and share life together. Between us we are passionate about spirituality, sustainability and wellbeing which all feed into the way we run Westwood.
For over 150 years Westwood’s building has been used as a place of spiritual refreshing and contemplation. We stay true to these roots by intentionally creating a space for all to come and experience the gift of stillness and peace. Westwood welcomes and celebrates a diversity of spiritual expressions. We believe there is great value in listening to different perspectives and discovering what we can learn from ancient traditions. Westwood is an ideal place for those seeking to encounter the Divine for themselves.
As a team we want to preserve and protect not only the building, but the environment that sustains it. Having the lightest impact on our natural surroundings, while maintaining an old building is a daily challenge. We are working towards a zero-waste centre, through minimising our waste, sourcing renewable energy and growing our own food. In 1993 Westwood’s 19th century church building was converted into five beautiful self-contained flats, each with its own distinctive character and carefully considered architectural details. The moment you walk into a flat -- after you have caught your breath from the incredible views over the Colne Valley -- you will notice the beautifully retained features of the church building. Our accommodation is self-catering and all of the flats have a well-equipped kitchen. Westwood is a non-profit organisation and we want to make our facilities available to all who wish to visit. As such, we aim to make our accommodation as affordable as possible.
Here you search for which flats are available and suit your requirements. You can book your preferred flat, choosing to pay a deposit now or pay in full. Please also ensure you indicate what bedding you would like when making the booking. Please note, bedding is now included in the price. Check-ins are available Mon, Weds & Fri from 3pm - 9pm with a minimum 7 days advance notice and prices are based on a minimum 2 night stay. Check-outs are available every day apart from Saturday between 8am - 10am. We do also offer a 1 night stay at a supplemented price (extra £25.00 pppn) The Nave is our designated ground floor flat for those with mobility issues and/or requiring wheelchair access and for families with children under 12 year of age. Westwood is a quiet place of stillness and therefore ONLY suitable for those seeking peace and solitude to retreat, rest and recharge. Guests are asked to be mindful of noise levels throughout their stay in particular between our quiet hours curfew of 10pm - 8am when we ask for minimal noise in the flats and no arriving or leaving. Retreats are not guided or structured, we host the space and guests can enjoy a flexible day with no demands and make their own arrangements. *CANCELLATION POLICY* All payments (deposits and balances) once received are non-refundable. Any cancellations and payments made at least 28 days before the arrival date can be deferred to a future stay (subject to availability). PLEASE NOTE: The above applies for stays at least 28 days before the arrival date - all other cancellations and payments are non-transferable.
Westwood is an ideal venue for gatherings. Our large hall -- with its bright windows and captivating views -- makes a beautiful setting for groups. Booking the whole centre guarantees that your party has exclusive use of the flats and the hall, enabling you to tailor-make your time away according to your own specific requirements. As well as whole centre bookings we also offer a half centre booking alternative for smaller groups.
The Hall is available for basic sleepover use (for up to 10) as part of a whole or half centre group booking. The hall boasts a large, well-equipped kitchen, while overnight accommodation is in the form of 'bunk style' sleeping on a mezzanine floor. There are two separate shower rooms, each with a toilet. Please note: we only offer the hall for use as part of a whole or half centre booking and is no longer offered separately.
Westwood is also a perfect place to book the whole centre for a wide range of celebrations and events such as weddings, family gatherings and birthday get togethers. We understand some group leaders might like to come see the centre before booking their group retreat. You are very welcome to come visit and have a tour of Westwood, but we please ask you contact the office to officially book your visit. Unfortunately, unarranged visits are not possible.
