Do you provide catering under any circumstances?
Sadly, no. The centre is completely self-catering, but it’s possible to order big supermarket shops to be delivered here and we are only a few minutes’ walk away from a large farm shop with large cafe. We do have our in-house chef / caterer Hanna and also have contact with some other outside caterers if you’re looking to provide something special for your group.
Who is Westwood for?
For over 150 years Westwood’s building has been used as a place of spiritual refreshing and contemplation. We stay true to these roots by intentionally creating a space for ALL to come and retreat and experience its gift of stillness and peace. Westwood welcomes and celebrates a diversity of spiritual expressions and people from all backgrounds and walks of life. We believe there is great value in listening to different perspectives and discovering what we can learn from ancient traditions. Westwood is an ideal place for those seeking peace and solitude to rest, reflect and recharge.
Are the retreats guided?
We host the space for our guests to come to enjoy the stillness and peace and to recharge and refresh. Retreats are not guided or structured so you can enjoy a flexible day with no demands and make your own arrangements.
Do you offer discounts?
Westwood is a charity and non-profit, and so generally speaking, the discount is already included in the price. Westwood has always tried to keep costs to an absolute minimum for our guests, and running the place is a costly business.
What’s the nearest train station?
The nearest station is Slaithwaite (pronounced ‘Slawit’), which is accessible from Huddersfield and Manchester Piccadilly. It’s a 1-mile very steep uphill walk from there so most guests prefer a 4 minute £5 taxi ride. For further information on train times, or taxi numbers… Google is your friend 🙂
Can I bring a pet?
Unfortunately, due to the quiet nature of Westwood, on-site allergies and centre cat, the current policy is that only Guide Dogs are allowed at the Centre.
Can extra people stay or visit during my stay?
Our pricing is based on the number of staying guests, therefore we ask that any additional guests should be prebooked and paid for in advance of your stay. You are more than welcome to have people visit during your stay, but for fire safety reasons, we must be made aware of any visiting people.
How do I pay for my stay? Can I pay in instalments?
All bookings are made via our website and full or part payment can be made upon booking. You have the option to pay in full upon booking, alternatively you can just pay a deposit, with the remaining balance due 4 weeks prior to your stay. Unfortunately we’re unable to offer any different payment plans and no longer accept cash or cheques.
What do I need to bring with me? What does Westwood provide?
All our flats are fully self-contained and set up for self-catering with a full-sized kitchen. Each kitchen has an oven & hob, undercounter fridge with single freezer compartment, microwave, kettle, toaster, crockery, cafetiere, cutlery and pots and pans. In the kitchen you’ll find a few supplies such as instant coffee, teabags, sugar, cleaning cloth, tea-towel, washing-up liquid, cleaning spray and hand-soap. In the bathroom we provide toilet rolls, hand-soap, hand towel and bathmat. Each flat also has one hairdryer and an ironing board and iron is available upon request.
