Whether you desire solitude, a digital detox, or simply time and space to reflect, Westwood offers the tranquil surroundings you need to reconnect and recharge. Our retreats are intentionally unstructured, allowing you the freedom to shape your days in a way that best suits your needs and preferences. Who Can Benefit from a Westwood Retreat? Solo Visitors: Perfect for individual retreats, Westwood provides a serene environment ideal for personal reflection, self-care, and renewal. Couples, Families, and Groups: An idyllic escape for those wanting to disconnect from the modern hustle and reconnect with loved ones in a meaningful way. The Westwood Experience Nestled in the heart of the Pennine Hills, Westwood is surrounded by awe-inspiring landscapes, rambling walks, and breathtaking views. You can explore the stunning countryside or visit charming neighbouring villages to enrich your stay. While we intentionally don't have televisions in our flats to encourage deeper rest and connection, we do offer WiFi and 4G access if you need to stay in touch with the outside world.
We are formed of two families, who live and volunteer on site and share life together. Together, we bring a deep passion for spirituality, sustainability, and wellbeing—values that shape every aspect of how Westwood is run and experienced.
For over 150 years, Westwood has been a sanctuary for spiritual renewal and contemplation. Our retreats are intentionally unstructured, allowing guests the freedom to shape their days as they wish—or simply embrace the opportunity to do nothing at all.
In 1993, Westwood’s 19th-century church was thoughtfully transformed into five stunning self-contained flats, each with its own unique character and carefully preserved architectural details. From the moment you step into a flat—after taking in the breathtaking views over the Colne Valley—you’ll be struck by the beautifully retained features of the original church building. Each flat is self-catering and includes a well-equipped kitchen to ensure your comfort. As a non-profit organisation, we are committed to making Westwood accessible to all who wish to visit. To honor this commitment, we strive to keep our accommodation as affordable as possible.
We’re delighted to help you find the perfect flat for your stay. Check-ins are available on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays, with at least 5 days’ notice. A small supplement of £25 per person, per night applies. For guests with mobility needs, The Nave is our welcoming ground-floor flat, designed for easy access and comfort. Westwood offers a tranquil retreat, ideal for rest and reflection. Families with children are welcome during special offers or when booking half or the whole centre. Please get in touch if you’d like to discuss a family stay. Cancellations: All payments are non-refundable, but if you need to cancel at least 28 days before arrival, you’re welcome to defer your booking once to a future date (subject to availability).
Westwood is an ideal venue for retreats and gatherings. Our large hall, with its bright windows and captivating views, makes a beautiful setting for groups. Booking the whole centre guarantees that your group has exclusive use of the flats, meeting room and the hall & kitchen enabling you to tailor-make your time away according to your own specific requirements. As well as whole centre bookings we also offer a half centre booking alternative for smaller groups.
The Hall is available for overnight stays (sleepover-style accommodation for up to 10 people) as part of a whole or half-centre group booking. It features a spacious, fully equipped kitchen and bunk-style sleeping on a mezzanine floor. Guests also have access to two separate shower rooms, each with its own toilet. The Hall can also be hired separately for day or evening events and activities. Whether you're planning a family gathering, organisation meeting, birthday celebration, or training session, we’d love to host you. Get in touch to discuss booking the Hall for your next event.
Westwood is also a perfect place to book the whole centre for a wide range of celebrations and events such as weddings, family gatherings and birthday get togethers. You can call us on 07403 629431. Our office hours vary, although we are typically reachable on Wednesday, Thursday & Friday.
We understand some group leaders might like to come see the centre before booking their group retreat. You are very welcome to come visit and have a tour of Westwood, but we please ask you contact the office to officially book your visit. Unfortunately, unarranged visits are not possible.
