It is with a heavy heart that we announce that for the duration of this Tier 5 Lockdown, Westwood will be closed. Throughout this pandemic, the health, welfare and wellbeing of our guests, volunteers and staff has been our top priority. We’re optimistic that we’ll be able to welcome guests as soon as restrictions ease and it’s safe to do so, but we recognise that things are still uncertain. That’s why we adjusted our cancellation policy - if guidelines change and your visit is no longer possible, we’ll happily move your stay or promptly refund you in full. So be hopeful and book yourself a future retreat - we could all use a little something to look forward to right now. Please note, during this time of closure, responses to emails and reservation requests may take slightly longer than usual. We appreciate your patience.
Westwood has been a place of rest, recharge and retreat for the past 25 years. It is a haven for those seeking stillness in a busy world. Perhaps you are looking for solitude and stillness, a place for digital detox, time and space to reflect and be creative, Westwood provides peaceful surroundings for you to do this. Westwood is ideal for individual retreats, giving solo visitors plenty of space and scope to recharge. Westwood is also a great place for couples, families and groups to escape from the modern, fast-paced world and enjoy connecting with each other. We have awe-inspiring landscapes on our doorstep, and we are nestled in the Pennine hills surrounded by rambling walks and stunning views. You can discover what neighbouring villages have to offer. We intentionally don't have any televisions in the flats, however, we do have WiFi and 4G if you do need to catch up with the world.
We are formed of two families, who live and volunteer on site and share life together. Between us we are passionate about community, spirituality, creativity and sustainability which all feed into the way we run Westwood. While retreats are not guided, we can be available for guests who would like to meet one-to-one.
For over 150 years Westwood’s building has been used as a place of spiritual refreshing and contemplation. We stay true to these roots by intentionally creating a space for all to come and experience the gift of stillness and peace. Westwood welcomes and celebrates a diversity of spiritual expressions. We believe there is great value in listening to different perspectives and discovering what we can learn from ancient traditions. Westwood is an ideal place for those seeking to encounter the Divine for themselves.
As a team we want to preserve and protect not only the building, but the environment that sustains it. Having the lightest impact on our natural surroundings, while maintaining an old building is a daily challenge. We are working towards a zero-waste centre, through minimising our waste, sourcing renewable energy and growing our own food. Since the very beginning of Westwood, we have relied on the generosity of those who believe in its vision. If you'd like to become a 'Friend of Westwood' you can give regularly, get in touch to find out how.
We have a creative vision for Westwood. We want to be a space that facilitates and encourages the expression of art in all its forms. Overlooking the magnificent creation of the Colne Valley, guests have come to write, sing, dance and create. From writers' retreats to comedy events, Westwood is a creative hub, perfect for connecting artists and inspiring even those who don't think they're creative. We believe we are created to be creatives, as Pablo Picasso says “All children are born artists, the problem is to remain an artist as we grow up”.
In 1993 Westwood’s 19th century church building was converted into five beautiful self-contained flats, each with its own distinctive character and carefully considered architectural details. The moment you walk into a flat -- after you have caught your breath from the incredible views over the Colne Valley -- you will notice the beautifully retained features of the church building. Our accommodation is self-catering and all of the flats have a well-equipped kitchen. Westwood is a non-profit organisation and we want to make our facilities available to all who wish to visit. As such, we aim to make our accommodation as affordable as possible.
Here you search for which flats are available and suit your requirements. You can then request the dates you'd like to stay. We'll respond to the request within 48 hours. Please note, check-in time is 3pm onwards and check-out is at 10am. *** While dates are available to book, because of the constant changing COVID guidelines, we can't guarantee your retreat will be possible when the time comes. But, don't worry, all bookings are covered by our Covid Cancellation Policy, which means you'll be eligible for a full refund if your stay is no longer possible due to COVID. ***
Westwood is an ideal venue for gatherings. Our large hall -- with its bright windows and captivating views -- makes a beautiful setting for group weekends away. Booking the whole Centre guarantees that your party has exclusive use of the flats and the hall, enabling you to tailor-make your time away according to your own specific requirements. As well as overnight stays, the flats and the hall are also available for day bookings.
The Hall is available for either daytime or evening use (for up to 70) or basic sleepover use (for up to 25) and is a great space for groups, events and gatherings. The hall boasts a large, well-equipped kitchen which can cater for groups of up to 50 people, while overnight accommodation is in the form of bunk-style sleeping on a mezzanine floor. There are two separate shower rooms, each with a toilet.
Westwood is also a perfect for celebrations such as weddings, family gatherings and birthday parties. We can host a range of events, including comedy nights, music gigs and performances. Westwood is also becoming a creative hub in the community, offering a space for artists to connect and collaborate. If you'd like to chat to us about holding your celebration at Westwood, please do get in touch! We'd love to hear your plans.
